Derreck Kayongo: Reimagining diversity & inclusion
Successful entrepreneur and major champion of diversity and inclusion Derreck Kayongo (https://www.kepplerspeakers.com/speakers/derreck-kayongo) discusses the cost of discrimination. Kayongo notes that when analyzing diversity and inclusion, there are two major concepts to attend to.
First, Kayongo explains the “discrimination cost index” that he himself formulated. He asks his audience what the cost is of discriminating against somebody. “That cost to discriminate is something we do an experiment around, and we take it and do the anatomy, breaking down where does it really cost to discriminate,” he says in this video.
Kayongo goes on to explain the second concept: “Corporate Moral Aptitude.” This concept revolves around understanding the value of one’s fellow employees.
“I have faith in my employees all the time. I have faith in their intuition. I have faith in their ability to create and innovate.” Derreck Kayongo
He goes on to explain that, once you understand the cost of discrimination, then it becomes easier to make decisions in a more moral way. You are then more aware of things you should and should not say. Kayongo utters that “This very cautious understanding is your role at work.”
Derreck Kayongo devotedly climbed the ladder from rags to riches to become a successful CEO, entrepreneur, and human rights activist. His experiences and his dedication to advocating for human rights make him an inspiring individual to listen to. As the founder of the Global Soap Project and with involvement in many other projects, Kayongo has shown time and time again his devotion to making the world a better place.
